Authentic Self-Presentation Using Theatre/Communication Skills

Lee Potts
TBA

Develop the most creative, imaginative dimensions of who you are.

Explore Gestalt-related theatre exercises to enliven self-presentation and formal talks.

Find your authentic voice and “voice.”

Expand your understanding and use of body language.

Become more expressive by embodying your spoken words.

Optimize the impact of your professional voice message.

Create an effective 3-5 minute “who I am and what I do” talk for use in public presentation or in a U-Tube video to put on your BPI expanded page or website.

Effective self-presentation can help you recruit and retain clients. Communication behaviors such as body language, vocal tone, expressiveness and style send significant messages about you and affect all of your professional and personal interactions. Therefore, it makes good sense to hone the skills that help you “show up” as your centered, fully authentic self. In addition, learning how to remove vocal/physical blocks can provide therapists with expanded ways for helping clients.

This 10-session class was born from a request by participants in the October 24, 2010 Presentation Skills for Therapists; they asked that an entire course be offered focusing on the principles and techniques of authentic self-performance. Together we will create a safe, playful environment that allows you to try on expanded ways of expressing who you are; the goal is for you to feel comfortable and confident in putting your unmasked self out into the world. You will also explore a variety of ways to assist clients by employing some of these principles and techniques.
